New Dawn life Skills

In today’s world of complex competition and pressure to perform, we are busy teaching the child academics, arts, sports etc; but do not make the time for teaching the child about “life” – inside and outside oneself. However it is this very understanding of “life” and “oneself” which has always been the essential ingredient for success and growth of any individual, and of any true leader. While this understanding is the most significant it is also the most difficult to bring about parents and educators today are struggling to bring this understanding in their children, with little success.

Life skills have been defined by WHO as “abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life”. They represent the psycho-social skills that determine valued behaviour and include reflective skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking, to personal skills such as self-awareness, and to interpersonal skills.

Around the world, Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE) is being adopted as a means to empower young people in challenging situations. LSBE refers to an interactive process of teaching and learning which enables learners to acquire knowledge and to develop attitudes and skills which support the adoption of healthy behaviors. It is also a critical element in UNICEF's definition of quality education.
CBSE advocates that imparting “Life skills” is the solution to guide the student onto this path. And that this must be achieved not through didactic lectures but through: practical activities, feedback and reflections, consolidation and reinforcement, relating to day to day life of the student.
